Shelby County authorities have confirmed another arrest in an alleged school mass shooting plot.
Prosecutor Brad Landwerlen says the investigation into the alleged school shooting plot in which an arrest was made in early January has led to another arrest in Mississippi. On Monday, the prosecutor's office filed Attempted Murder and Conspiracy To Commit Murder charges against another juvenile, whose name is Melanie Little. Authorities were contacted where Little lives in Corinth, Mississippi and they took her into custody. Little was taken before a judge and refused to waive extradition to Indiana. She has been ordered to be held without bond pending resolution of intent to have her extradited to Shelby County.
A Shelby County teenager faces charges related to the planned school shooting scheduled for this spring at Morristown Jr./Sr. High School. Alexis Pickett, 17, was initially held on $1 million bond in a case that was being waived to adult court. Pickett's charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and intimidation for planning the attack that law enforcement believes was scheduled for May 25.
At the time of Pickett's arrest, Landwerlen said her parents made a very tough decision to reach out to law enforcement with concerns she was going to hurt herself or someone else. Pickett reportedly told detectives of her obsession with school shootings and she felt she related to Columbine shooter Eric Harris.
Further details indicated that a person known as "Nathan" appeared to have formed attack plans while communicating with messaging through various apps. Pickett was reported to have sent pictures and video of the school to this person who lives in Mississippi to aid his planning of the attack.
Shelby County authorities have been working with law enforcement in various jurisdictions and the FBI as the investigation continues.
