All are invited to explore the Howard County Museum’s newest exhibit, IU at the Seiberling, at its opening on September 4, 2025 at 5:30 PM presented by the Howard County Historical Society.
The exhibit follows the history of Indiana University, examining its early beginnings in Kokomo leading up to its transition to the Washington Street Campus. In 1946, Indiana University purchased the Seiberling Mansion and later acquired the Elliott House for use as IU’s Kokomo Extension Center, a purpose that continued until the campus moved to its current location on Washington Street in 1965.
Through interviews with previous students and archives research, the Howard County Historical Society presents a history of the Seiberling Mansion during its time as a college campus.
The opening for IU at the Seiberling is scheduled for 5:30 PM Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Seiberling Mansion, 1200 West Sycamore Street. Light refreshments will be served in the Elliott House following the opening.
The IU at the Seiberling exhibit will be available for extended viewing at the Howard County Museum during normal hours of operation. The Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday 1 to 4 PM.
