A 42-year-old Fort Wayne man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he was clocked traveling 83 miles per hour in a posted 50 mph zone and subsequently found to have a blood alcohol content more than three times the legal limit.
According to the Plymouth Police Department, Patrolman Thornton clocked the vehicle speeding on Wednesday, May 6th, and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 31 and 9A Road. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed open containers in plain view inside the car.
The driver, identified as Javoris Anthony Cotton, 42, of Fort Wayne, was investigated further and found to have a blood alcohol content exceeding three times the legal limit.
Cotton was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked on multiple charges, including driving while suspended following a conviction of a criminal offense, operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a license, reckless driving, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated — endangerment.
He is currently being held at the Marshall County Jail on a $1,500 cash bond.
