The Shelby County Coroner’s Office has announced the re-establishment of its Community Outreach Program, which had been temporarily suspended due to financial and budget constraints.
Thanks to a grant from the Blue River Community Foundation, along with additional funds generated through cremation release fees and record requests, the program officially restarted this month.
The Community Outreach Program is designed to address critical health and safety issues, including prevention of cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions, suicide prevention, overdose prevention, Narcan distribution, organ donation awareness, and accident prevention.
“Our office is often viewed in a dark light and not commonly spoken about,” said Shelby County Coroner Bradley Rund. “Our goal is to change that perception by engaging with the community, having hard but important conversations, and being a visible and accessible resource for prevention and education.”
The Coroner’s Office is available to attend community events or provide presentations. Those interested are encouraged to contact Rund at brund@co.shelby.in.us .
