The City of Shelbyville Behavioral Health and Equity Office, in collaboration with the Shelby County Drug Free Coalition, invites the community to a special free screening of the award-winning documentary "The Addict's Wake" on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Shelbyville Middle School, 122 W. McKay Road.
The Addict’s Wake is a film that explores the impact of addiction on small-town America, specifically focusing on the personal stories of individuals and families from Brown County, Indiana. The documentary addresses the devastating effects of substance use disorder and highlights the incredible resilience of those fighting for recovery.
“This film is an opportunity for our community to come together, increase awareness, and spark important conversations around addiction and the steps we can take to support those in need of help,” said Keyen Macklin, Director of the Shelbyville Behavioral Health and Equity Office. “We encourage everyone to attend and join us in addressing the challenges of addiction in our community.”
In addition to the film screening, complimentary movie-style food will be available, making it a family-friendly evening for all. While the event is free, an RSVP is requested for planning purposes. Attendees can RSVP by scanning the QR code on the event flyer or email scdfc.lkspringer@gmail.com.
Organizations in the prevention, treatment and recovery fields have been invited to set up resource tables with information on what they offer. If someone is there that needs assistance for themselves or a family member, they can leave with some guidance.
