Plymouth High School has a familiar face taking the reins of its football program. Athletic Director Josh Troyer announced Thursday afternoon that Brent Corbett has been named interim Head Football Coach for the 2026-27 season, following the sudden resignation of Ron Shaffer earlier this week.
Corbett is no stranger to Rockie Football — or to Plymouth. A standout player for the program from 2003 to 2007, he went on to play college football at Taylor University on a four-year scholarship after also competing in baseball during his high school career. He has been a fixture on the coaching staff since 2011, serving in a variety of roles including linebackers coach, secondary coach, and defensive coordinator. He also spent more than a decade as an assistant baseball coach from 2011 to 2022.
Corbett wasted no time getting to work, already meeting with current players and reaching out to families regarding summer plans, schedules, and program expectations ahead of the upcoming season.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to lead this program," said Corbett. "Rockie football means a great deal to me personally, and I'm excited to work with our student-athletes, coaches, and community. Our goal is to build Rockie football back to the championship-level teams of the past while creating a program and team our community can be proud to support."
Plymouth Athletics expressed confidence that Corbett's deep connection to the program, knowledge of the game, and commitment to student-athletes will provide the stability and leadership Rockie Football needs heading into the season. Additional details regarding summer workouts, team meetings, and schedules will be communicated to players and families in the coming days.
