House Enrolled Act 1149 requires the Indiana Department of Agriculture to create and maintain an online portal for farmers to communicate with the state government and get information they need to be successful.
A bill sponsored by State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) that will create a new online agricultural portal was signed into law by Gov. Mike Braun at the Statehouse.
House Enrolled Act 1149 requires the Indiana Department of Agriculture to create and maintain an online portal for farmers to communicate with the state government and get information they need to be successful, including funding opportunities. It also requires IDOA to conduct an inventory of lost farmland every five years.
"As the chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, I know it can sometimes be difficult for farmers to access the information they need on a daily basis," Leising said. "This new online portal will help them continue to strengthen our state economy as the seventh largest agricultural exporter in the nation."
HEA 1149 is the first piece of legislation that is part of Braun's Freedom and Opportunity Agenda to be signed into law.
Leising attended the ceremony with State Rep. Kendall Culp (R-Rensselaer), the author of the bill, State Sen. Sue Glick (R-LaGrange), State Sen. Gary Byrne (R-Byrneville) and others.
