Barker sentenced to nine years for shooting girlfirend with BB gun

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office announced the completion of the prosecution of Edwin L. Barker, who had been residing in Grovertown prior to his arrest.

Barker was charged with Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Felony, and Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury, a Level 6 Felony after an investigation led by Detective Sergeant Jonathan Bryant of the Marshall County Police Department.

The investigation began in January of 2026 when Marshall County Dispatch received a call from the emergency room at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Hospital staff reported that a female patient had been shot with a BB gun several times by her boyfriend. Some of the female’s injuries were severe and included several BBs lodged under her skin and in her head, as well as one that struck her right eye. After Barker shot her repeatedly and shoved her from the residence, she was able to seek help from a neighbor who assisted her in getting to the hospital. By the time officers attempted to make contact with Barker, he had fled the residence in the victim’s vehicle. Eventually, Det. Sgt. Bryant was able to locate Barker and take him into custody.

Barker pled guilty to the highest charge of Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, on September 10, admitting that he knowingly inflicted injury which caused protracted loss or impairment of the function of a bodily member or organ. At sentencing on October 9, the Honorable Judge Tami Napier of Marshall Superior Court 1 sentenced the Defendant to the maximum of nine years allowed by the terms of the plea agreement, to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction.
