Shelbyville cross country wins Goble Invitational while Waldron and Morristown repeat as Shelby County champs

Shelbyville girls cross country won the Goble Classic Saturday in Morristown in its first appearance in the event.

The Golden Bears’ 29 points defeated Morristown (43) and Greenwood Christian Academy (55). There were 11 schools participating in the event but only three had enough runners to field a team score.

Shelbyville’s America Leon (21:53) and Macey Robbins (22:24) finished second and fourth, respectively. Kat Seal placed 11^th in 24:50. Harper Kinsey was 14^th in 25:33 and Anne Marie Fansler followed in 18^th in 26:36.

Morristown’s Audrey VanDyke finished third in 22:15. Lauren Kuhn placed seventh in 23:42. Also scoring for Morristown were Brooke Kuhn (15^th in 25:45), Emma Oster (22^nd in 27:38) and Madison Richardson (24^th in 28:03).

Triton Central’s Audrey Morris finished 17^th in 26:15.

Waldron’s Sophia Meriwether and Kassidy Meulen finished 20^th (27:10) and 21^st (27:33).

Southwestern’s Adalyn Brewer placed 26^th in 29:13.

Lapel’s Sarah Combs won the girls race in 20:39.

Lapel won the Goble Classic boys team title with 43 points. Greenwood Christian (52) was runner-up ahead of Blackford (71), Shelbyville (78), Waldron (129), Southwestern (163) and Morristown (166).

Lapel’s Jack Combs won the boys race in 15:49.

Shelbyville’s Shia Veach finished third in 16:49. Also competing for the Golden Bears were Eden Ortega (18:18), Anderson Mollenkopf (19:34), Kendryk Pike (20:07) and Eli Davis (21:00).

Waldron’s Jacob Kuhn finished 10^th in 18:26. Following Kuhn across the finish line were Tad Crosby (19:46), Spencer Armstrong (19:48), Wyatt Armstrong (23:23) and Matt Campbell (28:35).

Landon Drake led Southwestern with a 29^th place finish in 21:07. Also running for Southwestern were Charlie Newton (21:26), Michael Sipes (21:46), Matthew Sipes (22:21) and Ethan Sipes (23:08).

Competing for Triton Central were Jason P’Pool (43^rd in 23:13), Hudson Watson (24:25) and Luke Starost (26:44).

Shelby County Cross Country Championships

The Shelby County Meet was run in conjunction with the Goble Classic between Morristown, Southwestern, Triton Central and Waldron.

Waldron won the boys championship for the sixth year in a row. Jacob Kuhn, representing Waldron, was the individual champion.

Morristown repeated as the girls champion with Audrey VanDyke repeating as county champion.
