Robinson holds off Indians to extend losing skid

The Robinson Maroons rallied from an early deficit with 19 straight points and handed the Lawrenceville Indians their sixth straight loss 19-16 Friday night at Ed Loeb Field in Lawrenceville.

The Indians scored first at 7:46 of the first quarter on a 15-yard TD run by senior Luke Schultz to take an 8-0 lead. The visitors then began their comeback with a 23-yard field goal by kicker Hayden Bonnell to slice the lead to 8-3 after one quarter.

Robinson took the lead for good on a touchdown run by running back Josh Crouse and another field goal by Bonnell in the second quarter and the first half ended 12-8.

The Maroons added a third quarter 12-yard scoring run by quarterback Jetson Hoalt to lead 19-8 after three. Schultz drew the Indians closer with an interception return for a TD with just over 4 minutes remaining in the game to cut the margin to 19-16. The Maroon offense then held onto the ball for the remainder of the game to post the win.

The loss drops the Indians to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the Little Illini Conference (LIC) while Robinson is 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the LIC.

Lawrenceville will remain at Loeb Field and host the Marshall Lions for Homecoming on Saturday, October 3rd at 2 p.m.
