Prep Report: Shelbyville tennis tops Triton Central for fourth win of week

With a pair of doubles victories and a win by Kashton Laycock at No. 1 singles, Shelbyville tennis defeated Triton Central, 3-2, Thursday at Shelbyville.

Laycock defeated Brayden Hoover, 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Jack Van Wye and Cooper Reed bested Graham Gast and Cash Eck, 6-4, 6-4.

Owen Shively and Grant Tackett improved to 8-2 this season at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Colton Ayres and Owen Rice.

Triton Central’s two wins did not come easy.

At No. 2 singles, Bradyn Robinson prevailed over Bram Kolkmeier, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

Drayton Kermode topped Kody Sellers at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 14-12.

The victory was Shelbyville’s fourth this week to improve its record to 6-4.

Triton Central suffered its third loss of the week to fall to 7-4 this season.

Boys soccer

Greenwood 2, Shelbyville 1

At Shelbyville, William Thompson and Jose Moreno scored second-half goals to get the Woodmen (3-2-2, 2-1 HLC) the road victory.

Shelbyville tied the match late in the second half when Tommy Avila knocked home the tying goal.

Less than one minute later, Greenwood scored the game winner.

The Golden Bears are 2-5 (1-2 HLC) this season.

Triton Central 4, Monrovia 1

At Monrovia, the visiting Tigers scored a pair of goals in each half to secure the HLC victory.

Alex Young scored Monrovia’s lone goal. The Bulldogs are 0-4-1 this season.

Triton Central improved to 2-5-1 (2-1 HLC).

Volleyball

Triton Central def. Shelbyville, 27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-8

At Shelbyville, the host Golden Bears won consecutive sets to take a 2-1 lead but the Tigers rallied to win set four and rolled in the fifth set to take the HLC victory.

Lucy May led Triton Central (8-3, 4-0 HLC) with 21 kills.

Alaina Darlage had 28 digs and setter Anna Kemper collected 56 assists.

Annabelle Bringle led the Golden Bears (5-4, 2-2 HLC) with 15 kills and two service aces. Jordyn Noe finished with 13 kills, two aces and 11 digs. Lyla Wilson had 10 kills.

Hayden Ricketts led Shelbyville with 24 digs.

Setter Addy Marshall finished with 11 digs and 52 assists.

Knightstown def. Waldron, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21

At Waldron, Lanee Swindell had 14 kills to lead Knightstown to the victory. Lyla Trigg and Rylee Raglin each had eight kills.

Maleah Williams topped Waldron with 12 kills.

Waldron dropped to 4-5.
