Plymouth falls in baseball opener

The Pilgrims were shutout by Columbia City Thursday in what proved to be the season opener, 12-0.

Plymouth baseball added an early game to its schedule with this weekend's scheduled home doubleheader threatened by severe weather.

The Pilgrims were shutout by Columbia City Thursday in what proved to be the season opener, 12-0.

Senior Preston Wolfe took the loss as he worked the first two innings in a starting role on the hill. He gave up four runs, three earned in two innings.

Aiden Landis, Grady Metsker, Nick Manzuk and Dominick Vasquez also pitched for Plymouth as Columbia City added a solo run in the third, three more in the fourth and capped the scoring with a three run seventh.

At the plate, Wolfe accounted for three of the Pilgrims' five hits with a 3-for-4 performance. Ethan Hall and Manzuk, both juniors, recorded a hit apiece.

Plymouth (0-1) is scheduled to host Huntington North in a 12 p.m. Saturday doubleheader. GIANT fm Sports WTCA pregame coverage begins at 11:45 a.m.
