A motorcycle crash and the driver leaving the scene led to a call to law enforcement Friday.

Just before 8 p.m., Marshall County deputies and Bourbon Police were dispatched to the area of 2805 17B Trail in Tippecanoe. A witness had reported that a male had crashed his motorcycle, was seen cleaning up the debris, and had fled the scene of the collision on foot.

The offender in the case, 36-year-old Clint R. Woodward of Tippecanoe, was the registered owner of the motorcycle. He was later found hiding in a field near State Road 331 and 18th Road by K-9 Bear and his handler.

During the investigation, it was found that Woodward had consumed alcohol before the collision. He was taken to the hospital for a certified chemical test and medical treatment of minor injuries and later transported to the Marshall County Jail.

Woodward was booked in for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior, resisting law enforcement, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
