Fulton County 4-H Fair culminates with Livestock Auction and Spotlight Sale
Thirteen 4-H members earned a total of $24,800 at Friday’s Fulton County 4-H Fair Spotlight Sale.
During the annual livestock auction, roughly 120 other animals were sold by 4-H members.
The reserve grand champion steer, weighing 1,346 pounds and owned by 10-year 4-H member Isabel Scales, sold to a buyer group for $8,000. That was the highest priced animal in the Spotlight Sale.
The animals were sold for a single price, instead of by the pound. Nearly every Spotlight Sale purchase was made by a group of buyers.
Gavin Young, another 10-year 4-H member, took home $3,600 with his grand champion county born and bred heifer, weighing 1,214 pounds.
Tobias Clauson’s grand champion pair of crossbred barrows sold for $2,550.
Everett Ott’s reserve grand champion market lambs, which led the Spotlight Sale, sold for $2,400.
Grant Clark’s reserve grand champion market wether sold for $1,700.
Hayley Bright’s grand champion single fryer rabbit sold for $1,400.
Quinnley Zent’s reserve grand champion pair of barrows sold for $1,300.
Colton Baker’s grand champion rabbit meat pen sold for $1,100.
Emily Vigar’s dairy products, representing the grand champion dairy cow, sold for $800. Colton Jones’s dairy products for the reserve grand champion sold for $500.
Ava Helt’s grand champion market dairy goat sold for $750.
Kinzlee Kelly’s grand champion pair of ducks sold for $400, and Jessica Taylor’s grand champion egg basket brought $300.
A kiss from Miss Fulton County Chesnee Miller sold for $300 and was planted on a heifer owned by Ellison Burton. A fundraising competition among livestock buildings determined the animal she would kiss, with the beef barn raising the most money.
Additionally, $1,900 was raised for livestock building improvements by the auction of a donated John Deere pedal fire truck.
Lastly, and still a highlight of the Spotlight Sale, a basket of cookies from the Fulton County Extension Homemakers’ brought $1,750. The buyers were Bill and Stephenia Barkman-Adams.
