The annual Holiday Stroll kicked off the Christmas season in downtown Rochester on Friday, Dec. 6, bringing live music, community carolers, real reindeer, and of course, Santa. See some of the fun in our Holiday Stroll photo gallery below.
Community members gathered on Main Street in downtown Rochester on Friday, Dec. 6, for Rochester Downtown Partnership's annual Holiday Stroll.
RDP Executive Director Julie Shambarger said the event's purpose was to bring sweet and simple Christmas memories for local families. A few new things were highlighted in this year's event including the new Santa house built by Rochester High School students in their civil construction class. Families lined up outside of the Santa house at Centennial Park throughout the evening to get their chance to visit with Santa and tell them their Christmas wishes.
A parade kicked off the event at 6 p.m., bringing Santa and a short parade that ended with a performance by the RHS band and color guard. Local businesses put their personal touches into the event by sponsoring several activities during the event so attendees could enjoy things like a cookie decorating station, free hot cocoa, hot dogs, candy, cookies and more. Several vendors also joined this year's event, selling candied nuts, kettle corn and baked goods.
Community members were encouraged to dress in festive holiday wear for the event. Edward Jones helped visitors add to their holiday accessories by giving away free reindeer antlers and other cheery Christmas theme headbands.
