Marshall County Museum bids farewell to a beloved team member, Karin Rettinger

After more than two decades of dedicated service, Karin Rettinger quietly stepped down from her position at the Marshall County Museum on June 23rd. True to her selfless nature, Karin asked that no fuss be made — no retirement dinner, no open house, no gathering in her honor.

So the museum is doing things a little differently.

"Help us show Karin how much she will be missed," said Executive Director Sandy Garrison, who is inviting the community to send cards, letters, and emails to the museum so they can be collected and shared with Rettinger as a heartfelt tribute to her years of service. Submissions are requested by July 10th.

Over her more than 20 years at the museum, Rettinger wore countless hats — and it would be hard to find something she didn't do. She was the driving force behind the museum's annual sidewalk sales, which have grown to three events per year, and played a key role in organizing the popular Ghost Walk, held every other year.

Rettinger was also an invaluable resource in the Genealogy Library, helping to relocate and reorganize the room when it moved from the basement of the Lauer building into its new first-floor home in the south building. She knew where everything was and how to find it — and served as a walking encyclopedia on the history of Marshall County. She also coordinated the museum's volunteer program, making her a cornerstone of nearly every aspect of the organization's daily operations.

To send a card, letter, or email in Karin's honor, contact the Marshall County Museum. Submissions are encouraged by July 10th.
