Work continues on the creation of a county organization to assist Lawrence County veterans and their families in the future.
The Lawrence County Veterans Commission Board held its second meeting on Wednesday, July 1st at the Lawrenceville V.F.W. Post #2244
The main topic of the session was the forming of an operational budget. Commission President Gerald Wiedner reported that talks were held in early June with the finance committee of the Lawrence County Board on exactly how much money would be available to get up and running. Also discussed was the hiring of a superintendent to run the organization. Wiedner told GIANT-FM News that it is hoped that the position could be filled by the start of 2028. Additional meetings will be held to iron out the financial details. The county board had indicated its support of the idea at previous meetings.
The next meeting of the Commission Board is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd at 6 p.m. again at the V.F.W. The meetings are open to the public.
