A deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Hamlet man Friday for OWI with a prior conviction.
At about 9:55 p.m. Friday, the deputy made a routine traffic stop. The driver was believed to be operating while impaired, so the officer administered Standardized Field Sobriety testing, which showed signs of impairment.
42-year-old Alex Casanova was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail for OWI with a prior and held on a $3,000 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury, at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
