Officer Bennett with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle last Thursday evening, August 29th, at about 11:15 on U.S. 31 near 9A Road, and determined the driver was suspended.
The vehicle driver, 34-year-old Maurice Rene Burks II of South Bend, was found to be driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
Burks was transported to the Marshall County Jail, booked for driving while suspended with a prior conviction, and held on a $500 cash bond.
A trooper assisted the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department with the Indiana State Police.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
