A Howard County inmate was transported to the hospital after an apparent suicide attempt.
About 2:30 p.m. Saturday, correctional officers with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office requested an ambulance for an unconscious and unresponsive male inmate.
Correctional officers and on-site medical staff immediately began CPR until paramedics from St. Vincent arrived about four minutes later. The inmate was transported to a local hospital. His condition was unavailable as of this report.
Preliminary findings suggest the incident was a suicide attempt. Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, the name of the inmate and further details are being withheld pending notification of the family.
The case remains active and under investigation by Detective Shaffer.
