Waldron swept Morristown then defeated Triton Central in the championship match to be crowned Shelby County Tournament champions Saturday in Waldron.
The Mohawks lost just nine games total in topping Morristown, 5-0, in the semifinal round to advance to face Triton Central, who eliminated Southwestern in the other semifinal match.
In the championship, Waldron utilized wins at No. 2 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles to secure a 3-2 victory over Triton Central – its second win over the Tigers this season. The two programs could meet again later this month at the Shelbyville Sectional.
At No. 2 singles, Emily Tyree bested Ellie Gast, 6-4, 6-2. Riley Thurston secured a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Anniston Evans.
And at No. 1 doubles, Audrey Berauer and Riley Price defeated Audrey Canter and Lauren Grant, 6-1, 6-3.
Triton Central’s Maryrose Felling topped Emerson Lindsey at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Neve Kahler and Estelle Gearlds defeated Waldron’s Jackie Corlette and Kathryn Ross at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-1.
