Shelbyville’s Shia Veach missed the cut to the IHSAA State Finals by 12 seconds Saturday morning at the Shelbyville Cross Country Regional.
At Blue River Memorial Park’s cross country venue, Veach (photo, leading pack of runners) placed 57th overall in 16 minutes, 28 seconds. The final advancing spot as an individual was earned by Whiteland’s William Watson at 16:12.
The top five teams and the top 15 individuals advanced out of the regional Saturday.
Also competing in the boys race from Shelby County were Shelbyville’s Logan Reinhart (128th in 17:36), and Morristown’s Ryan Crisman (165th in 18:10) and Lakshdeep Singh (198th in 18:48).
Noblesville’s Banner Barnes won the regional title in 15:30. He led the Millers to the team title with 63 points. Center Grove (88), Fishers (129), Hamilton Southeastern (135) and Lawrence North (137) also advanced.
Indian Creek’s Libby Dowty won the girls regional race in 17:15.

Morristown’s Audrey Van Dyke placed 174th in 22:24.
Westfield won the regional team title with 75 points. Fishers (105), Noblesville (149), Guerin Catholic (153) and Franklin Central (166) also advanced to the state championship meet.
