Prep Report: Southwestern and Hauser to vie for inaugural MHC Soccer Tournament championship

Class A, No. 13 Southwestern advanced in the inaugural Mid-Hoosier Conference Boys Soccer Tournament Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Brown County (1-4-1).

The Spartans got two goals from Ethan Sipes and a goal from Dusty Stevens – all in the second half – to advance to Saturday’s championship game.

In the other semifinal Tuesday, Hauser defeated Morristown, 4-0. The Jets improved to 7-3-1 this season and will try to avenge a 3-2 loss at Southwestern on Sept. 4.

Morristown dropped to 2-6-1.

Boys soccer

Connersville 4, Triton Central 3

At Connersville, a trio of second-half goals netted the win for the Spartans (6-1-2).

Lakin Lakes had two goals and an assist for Connersville. Gavin Jones and Lachlan Martin also found the back of the net.

The Tigers are 0-4-1 in their last five matches to fall to 2-9-2.

Boys tennis

Waldron 5, Morristown 0

At Morristown, with a sweep of the Yellow Jackets, Waldron captured the Mid-Hoosier Conference title.

At No. 1 singles, Charlie Fischer defeated Eli Graves, 6-0, 6-1 and collected career win No. 65 to tie Lucas Shaw’s program record for wins.

Lincoln Fischer topped Mitchell Ronan at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Noah Leap produced a 6-1, 6-0 win over Gage Frey at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer defeated Ruston Kleine and Braxton Lenning, 6-0, 6-0.

Owen Hartman and Wyatt Armstrong matched that result at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Arik Trattner and Ethan Tryon.

Volleyball

Shelbyville def. Beech Grove, 25-14, 25-14, 25-14

At Shelbyville, freshman Maggie Kolkmeier led the Golden Bears with 10 kills.

Jordyn Noe finished with nine kills and four service aces.

Chloe Caldwell had a team-high 15 digs and setter Addie Marshall collected 32 assists.

Shelbyville improved to 12-5 overall and 4-2 against Hoosier Legends Conference foes.

Beech Grove fell to 6-9 (1-5 HLC).

Triton Central def. Speedway, 25-17, 25-19, 25-3

At Triton Central, Lucy May led the Triton Central attack with 17 kills. She also had two blocks.

Alaina Darlage recorded 10 digs and seven aces.

Setter Anna Kemper had 34 assists.

Triton Central improved to 9-5 (5-1 HLC).

Speedway lost its 12th straight match to fall to 2-13 (0-6 HLC).
