Waldron tennis suffered its first loss of the season Monday at Shelbyville, 3-2.
The visiting Mohawks won both doubles matches but could not secure a singles victory to defeat a potential sectional opponent.
At No. 1 doubles, Emerson Lindsey and Jackie Corlett defeated Megan Childers and Reese Fortune, 6-2, 6-0.
Madeline Walker and Hannah Rouse needed two tiebreakers to top Shelbyville’s Abby Huntsman and Ava Fralich, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5).
At No. 1 singles, Shelbyville’s Ava Muckerheide bested Riley Thurston, 6-2, 6-0.
Senior Sophia Asher defeated Ava Leising, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
The No. 3 singles match went three sets and Jenna Jersan prevailed over Malia Murphy, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
Shelbyville’s Mia Robbins and Corinne Aldridge won junior varsity singles matches. The Golden Bears also got JV doubles wins from Jocelyn McFarland and Chloe Caldwell and Ava Van Wye and Paige Bohman.
Waldron’s lone JV win came from Maddie Hungerford.
Waldron is 5-1 this season. Shelbyville is 5-2.

Baseball
Triton Central 7, North Decatur 3
At Triton Central, the Tigers scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to end a two-game losing streak.
Bo West had two hits for Triton Central and Brody Hartman and Weston Smith each drove in two runs.
Brayden Hoover earned the win with six solid innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out 10. Cooper Alford pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Wyatt Reisman had two hits and scored two runs for Class A, No. 10 North Decatur (4-4).
Triton Central (2-6, 1-3 Hoosier Legends Conference) hosts Speedway (3-8. 0-5 HLC) today.
Knightstown 8, Morristown 5
At Morristown, Class A, No. 4 Knightstown added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning to defeat the Yellow Jackets.
Cole Helton and Jake Miesse each had two hits for Morristown (2-5).
Miesse took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing seven hits and six walks while striking out five. Helton and Michael Ballinger pitched in relief.
Knightstown improved to 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets host Brown County (1-7) Friday.
Bethesda Christian 7, Waldron 2
At Waldron, a three-run fifth inning by Bethesda Christian proved too much for the Mohawks to overcome.
Jackson Kuhn and Troy Atwood combined to limit the Patriots (5-3) to nine hits over seven innings while striking out seven.
Cayden Rokicki and Benaiah Campbell limited Waldron (4-3) to just two hits and struck out 12.
The Mohawks are at Jac-Cen-Del (5-3) today.
Boys golf
East Central 168, Greensburg 180, Shelbyville 196
At Greensburg Country Club, Shelbyville’s Logan Reinhart was co-medalist with East Central’s Carter Smith at 39.
Softball
Greenwood 10, Shelbyville 5
At Greenwood, the visiting Golden Bears took a 3-0 lead in the first inning but could not hold off the Woodmen, who scored a total of seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Kinsley Clark and Tessa Hammons each homered for Greenwood (9-2) to secure its eighth-straight victory. Hammons also pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run.
Gracie Crafton (3-5) took the loss. She allowed 10 hits and six runs over 4.1 innings pitched. Sydney Brown pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed three hits, including Hammons’ home run, and four runs – all unearned.
Lexi Rogers smashed her team-leading sixth home run of the season for Shelbyville (6-6). Hailey Maulden had a solo home run.
The Golden Bears host Connersville (5-4) today.
Waldron 16, Irvington Prep 11
At Waldron, a 9-run second inning gave the Mohawks enough cushion to hold off the Ravens (1-6).
Brooklyn Rush, Izzy Blanchard and Haddison Johnson each had three hits for Waldron (5-1). Blanchard scored three runs and drove in two.
Five different Mohawks had two RBIs in the win.
Blanchard earned the win, pitching 3.2 innings and striking out 10.
Waldron is at Hauser (2-7) Wednesday.

Edinburgh 3, Southwestern 2
At Southwestern, the host Spartans won both doubles matches with the pairings of Callie Beck and Hayden Ramey (No. 1 doubles) and Claire Utley and Maci Murray (No. 2 doubles).
