Class 3A, No. 7 Shelbyville missed its first opportunity to secure outright the Hoosier Heritage Conference championship Thursday at Greenfield-Central.
The Golden Bears will have one more chance Saturday morning in a rematch with the Cougars (16-9, 10-4 HHC) at 11 a.m. at Barnett Field in Shelbyville.
On Thursday, Shelbyville scored twice in the first inning to take an early lead. The Cougars matched that with two in the third.
Six scoreless innings followed before Greenfield-Central scored in the bottom of the 10th inning to steal a 3-2 victory and move one win away from sharing the HHC title with Shelbyville.
Reece Prickett and Luke Coomes drove in the first-inning runs for Shelbyville (16-4, 10-3 HHC).
Greenfield-Central countered with two runs in the third off Shelbyville starting pitcher Aiden Smith, who left the mound after five innings having allowed two hits and four walks while striking out 14 Cougars.
Austin Martzall was solid from there but the Golden Bears failed to produce a run over the final nine innings off Brady Martin and Hunter Robling, who limited Shelbyville to four total hits and three walks while combining for 13 strikeouts.
In the 10th inning, Gage Handlon started the rally with a one-out single. He then stole second base and scored on Jack Herrin’s single.

In a Mid-Hoosier Conference doubleheader at Morristown, the Jets limited the Yellow Jackets to eight hits total and one run over two games to improve to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in the conference standings.
In game one, three different Hauser pitchers combined for the shutout. James Oliver earned the win, throwing four innings, allowing no hits and two walks while striking out six.
R.J. Foster, Stryker Gill and Damyon Hunter each had two hits.
Owen Rinzel had two hits for Morristown.
Hauser used a five-run third inning in game two to set up the win. Kameron Blair limited Morristown to one hit and three walks over five innings to earn the victory.
Foster had three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs. Rylan Sessions had two hits and drove in two runs.
Michael Ballinger had two hits for Morristown (8-11, 3-7 MHC).
Triton Central 4, Park Tudor 2
At Park Tudor, Brody Hartman surrendered two runs in the first inning then shut down the Panthers for the next four innings before Kellan Dishman pitched two scoreless innings for the save.
Weston Smith had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run for Triton Central (8-16).
Desmond Francis took the loss for Park Tudor (18-6).
On Wednesday, Southport pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 6-5 victory over the Tigers. Smith and Ty Bergman each had two hits in the loss.
T.J. Duncan, Jack Cochran, Tristan Dudas and Dylan Pearcy each had two hits for Southport (6-17).
Softball
Greenfield-Central 10, Shelbyville 0
At Shelbyville, the visiting Cougars used a five-run fourth inning to take control of the Hoosier Heritage Conference finale for the Golden Bears (10-15, 2-5).
The bottom two hitters in the Greenfield-Central lineup scored five runs. Toledo commit Savvanna Riall had three hits and four RBIs.
Senior Sydney Brown took the loss for Shelbyville. She allowed nine hits and eight runs (five earned) over four innings in her final game on her home field.
The Golden Bears had just six hits off Greenfield-Central starter Addie Heacox.
The Cougars improved to 12-10 (3-4 HHC).
Triton Central 11, Bethesda Christian 5
At Bethesda Christian, a five-run fifth inning put the Tigers in the lead for good.
Madi Peterson had three hits, including a double and a home run, and three RBIs for Triton Central (13-7). Ashlyn Hittle hit a pair of home runs, her 13th and 14th of the season, and finished with five RBIs to push her team-leading total to 36.
Peterson earned the win in the circle, allowing six hits while striking out seven.
Bethesda Christian dropped to 6-14.
Hauser 4, Morristown 2
Hauser 9, Morristown 7
In a MHC doubleheader at Hauser, the host Jets used a four-run third inning to secure the game one victory.
Lexie Hamilton had two hits and drove in two runs for Hauser. Kaitlyn Robbinson had three hits.
Karlieann Viewegh earned the win with a complete-game performance. She allowed seven hits and two walks while striking out six.
Abby Hawk took the loss for Morristown.
Sawyer Rogers had two hits and scored a run.
Another four-run inning was the difference in game two. The Jets scored four times in the sixth inning to pull away for the win.
Hauser (9-10, 7-3) had seven extra-base hits in the win. Hamilton and Robbinson each had a double and combined for six hits.
Kinley Krise went the distance, allowing 15 hits and four walks.
Rogers had four hits, scored two runs and had two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets (8-11, 3-7). Avery Everhart had three hits. Maryn Sprinkle, Chloe Longwell and Mykynzy Smith each had two hits.

In game one of a MHC doubleheader, Kailey Hinchman had a home run in the loss for the Mohawks (5-14, 0-10). Izzy Blanchard finished with two hits.
The Lancers scored five runs in three of the first four innings to secure the victory.
Edinburgh followed the winning formula in game two, scoring five runs in three of the first four innings to finish off the sweep.
Brylynn Dora had two hits and four RBIs for the Lancers (20-7, 9-3).
