Area football programs North Miami, North Judson, Knox and Maconaquah are ranked among the top ten in their respective classes in the most recent Indiana Football Coaches Association Poll.
In Class A, North Decatur (3-0) is the new number one with six first place votes followed by Providence (1) and South Putnam (3) who also received first place votes.
South Putnam dropped from the top spot after failing to convert five two-point conversions in a one-point double-overtime loss last Friday.
North Miami (3-0), ranked seventh in the Class A poll, is coming off a win at Caston in the Warriors’ Hoosier North opener, 28-13. This week, the Warriors on Friday host one of the teams ahead of them in the Class A poll, fourth-ranked North Judson (2-1, 1-0 Hoosier North). The Bluejays only loss was in the season opener against the undefeated Knox Redskins.
Also among the Class A top ten: Caroll (Flora) (2-1) ranked eighth and Pioneer (2-1) at number ten.
Knox (3-0) is ranked seventh in the 3A IFCA poll this week. The Redskins season has been highlighted by the rushing exploits of senior Myles McLaughlin. McLaughlin has already rushed for 1057 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s eclipsed the 400 yard mark in each of the last two games and scored nine touchdowns in last week’s 72-24 beating of Culver Academies.
The nine touchdowns fell just one short of tying the state record of 10.
This week, Knox will open Indiana Northern State Conference action with Tippecanoe Valley (2-1). The Vikings last outing was a 35-19 loss to Hamilton Heights. In the two weeks before that, the Vikings defense surrendered only three and two points, respectively.
Maconaquah (3-0, 1-0 TRC) will be heavily favored going into Week 4. The No. 8 ranked (3A) Braves are powered by a potent offense averaging 48 ppg. The opponent this week is Whitko (1-2) who was shutout by Rochester last week, 47-0.
