Shelbyville High School graduate and Mississippi State sophomore Kylee Edwards has been named the Beth Prince State Farm Athlete of the Week.
Edwards helped the MSU softball team win two of three games against Northwestern this past weekend. The No. 19 Bulldogs (27-6) beat the Wildcats 14-0 in five innings on Friday before a 4-2 loss in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.
In the second game, Mississippi State won 12-2 in five innings.
Edwards hit a grand slam on Friday and finished with two hits, four RBI, one run and a walk in the victory. On Saturday, she went a combined 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI, one run and two walks.
The Bulldogs are currently tied for second in the Southeastern Conference standings at 5-1. The No. 1 team in the country, Oklahoma, sits atop the conference at 8-1.
Mississippi State has a road game at Southern Miss Wednesday before hosting No. 2 Texas for a three-game series this weekend.
