The Lawrenceville basketball Indians were knocked off in opening round play of the Effingham-Teutopolis Christmas Classic Tournament Thursday.
They were beaten by Mattoon 64-54 at Teutopolis High School.
The Greenwave jumped on top after 1 quarter 20-13, but the Indians rallied to tie the score at 27 at the half.
Mattoon jumped back on top after 3 quarters 47-41 and held off the Tribe in the 4th to pick up the victory.
The 9-5 Indians were led by Maddox Pargin with 15 points and Noah Wilson with 14.
They will play Dixon at 9 a.m. Friday and play again at 4:30 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
