The Vincennes City Council has voted not to pass an ordinance dealing with the banning of water wells in areas of the city affected by environmental cleanups. The measure was brought before the full council Monday night by their public works committee with an unfavorable recommendation. Reasons given for the non-passage include a lack of effective enforcement and the lack of support of Mayor Joe Yochum. The matter deals with an area on Washington Avenue near the former Fields Cleaners location.
