The Indiana State Fire Marshalls Office has been called in to assist in the investigation of a fatal early morning fire Tuesday in Vincennes.
One person died in the fire and has been identified as 87-year-old Gerald Heningsmith. Four others were inside the home when the fire broke out and were able to escape. They were transported to various hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation, and one was taken to an Indianapolis hospital with severe burns. Their identities have not been released.
The damage to the residence at Fourth and Seminary Streets was extensive with firefighters remaining on the scene for 3 1/2 hours.
