When the curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at The REES, audience members will be able to enjoy the fruits of a dozen students’ labor over the past two weeks at the Youth Performing Workshop.
Friday is the first of four performances by the troupe, which ranges in age from elementary to high school. The group will also perform two shows (2 and 7:30 p.m.) on Saturday and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. The featured production is “Miss Nelson is Missing.” It will be preceded by a short, “The Little Red Hen,” based on the American fable.
“Miss Nelson is Missing” is the story of a teacher who has the worst-behaved class in the school. Spitballs fly across the room, paper planes sail every which way, and her uncontrollable children finally send the gentle, long-suffering Miss Nelson over the edge.
When Miss Nelson disappears, her students are in for a rude awakening when she is replaced by Viola Swamp, a no-nonsense substitute who assigns piles of homework. The students learn lessons of appreciation and respect as they set out to find their beloved Miss Nelson. But will they ever get her back?
Tickets are $5 for general admission seating. They are available online at reestheatre.com; at Fernbaugh’s Jewelry in downtown Plymouth; and at the box office, 100 North Michigan Street, Plymouth 45 minutes before each show.
