The Illinois Attorney Generals Office is warning Lawrence County taxpayers and others across the state to be wary of email, telephone and mail tax scams as the 2024 filing season continues. They emphasized that neither the state or federal government will call taxpayers, threaten them, or demand payment of taxes via a wire transfer, credit card or debit card. Anyone who receives this type of message is a scam target. Do not open or answer anything that draws suspicion and never provide any unsecured personal or financial information.
