A notice of an active arrest warrant from one of the county’s LPR (License Plate Reader) cameras resulted in the arrest of a South Bend woman.
On Monday, February 3, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Marshall County Dispatch officers of a hit on a license plate where the owner had active warrants for their arrest.
Plymouth Officer Enyart observed a vehicle matching that description, passing him traveling southbound at Madison Street. He quickly made a U-turn and was able to catch up as the driver was pulling into the parking lot of the Marshall County Prosecutor/Probation offices.
The officer confirmed that 32-year-old Kiara Hailey, the owner and driver of the vehicle, did have active warrants through Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties. He took her into custody and transported her to the Marshall County Jail. Hailey was held for the warrants and awaited transport to the Elkhart County Jail.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings, entitled to be represented by counsel, and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
