Twelve hours after being dispatched to a structure fire early Tuesday morning, the Shelbyville Fire Department (SFD) was still on scene working through the details of how the house at 736 S. Noble Street caught fire.
The fire department was dispatched at 4:27 a.m. Tuesday and arrived on scene to find the Shelbyville Police Department (SPD) assisting an adult and a minor from the house. SPD also evacuated the neighboring homes which allowed the fire department to concentrate on the fire.
Shelbyville Fire Department Deputy Chief of Fire Jay Tennell estimated the fire had been burning for approximately an hour before SFD’s arrival. That put both neighboring residences at risk.
SFD used four hand lines and approximately 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire at 736 S. Noble St. Both neighboring houses suffered damaged and the house where the fire started is considered a total loss, according to Tennell.

SFD transported both the adult and the minor removed from the home to Major Health Partners Major Hospital. They were treated, released and set up with temporary housing with the assistance of Shelby County Emergency Management Director Denis Ratekin.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Tennell. If anyone has information about the fire, contact Shelbyville Fire Chief Doug Lutes at 317-392-5119.
