Shelby Accessing Social Supports (SASS) will be conducting a Back-To-School Drive Friday at Walmart Supercenter, 2500 Progress Parkway, in Shelbyville.
The local organization will accept school supply donations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All supplies collected will then be distributed to the four school systems in Shelby County, beginning next week.
Pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters, folders … everything kids need from kindergarten to high school,” said Emily Larrison in a radio interview Thursday with GIANT fm’s Johnny McCrory.
SASS will have flyers detailing what school supplies are needed as shoppers enter Walmart. The organization also accepts financial donations as well.
“We get more and more kids and families coming out every year to the drive,” said Larrison. “It’s been really, really awesome to see we’ve helped hundreds of families every year.”
SASS expects to provide schools supplies for approximately 600 boys and girls this year.
Distribution is scheduled to begin next week. Here is the schedule:
- Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moral Township Volunteer Fire Department (Triton Central school district), 8333 N. Frontage Road in Fairland
- July 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Church of Risen Christ (Waldron school district), 202 W. Washington St. in Waldron
- July 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Morristown Methodist Church (Morristown school district), 221 S. Washington St. in Morristown
- July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Marietta Fire Department (Southwestern school district), 5371 W. Marietta Railroad St. in Shelbyville
- July 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Ville Church (Shelbyville school district), 1115 St. Joseph St. in Shelbyville
SASS also is collecting cereal boxes to help feed local children.
You can drop off a box of cereal at any of these local locations:
- YMCA at 2120 Intelliplex Drive
- The Ville at 2133 Tucker Road
- Bishopp’s Appliances at 42 Public Square
- Shelby County Probation Office at 10 W. Polk St.
- Beauty Bar on Broadway at 273 W. Broadway
Cereal boxes also will be distributed at each of the school drive distribution sites.
