Rockville, Indiana continued to celebrate its bicentennial on September 20th with the dedication and burial of a time capsule in Beechwood Park. The capsule, set to be opened in 2074, was buried next to the Andrew Ray Veterans Memorial as a tribute to the town's rich history and future. The Andrew Ray Veterans Memorial is set to be dedicated this upcoming Veteran’s Day, Monday November 11th.
The dedication ceremony was organized by VFW Paul Taylor Post 1752 and the Town of Rockville. Daniel A. Jensen, Commander of the VFW post, served as the Master of Ceremonies. Pastor Gene Walls of Nyesville Full Gospel Church delivered the opening prayer, followed by the National Anthem performed by Lisa Kneeland with Stan Rukes and the Honor Guard.
Speakers included Rodger Smith, a veteran and current President of Parke County Incorporated; Dustin Marfield, a veteran and Teacher of the Year; Randy Wright, Parke County Historian; Jim Meece, County Commissioner and President of the Parke County Historical Society; and David Brown, President of the Rockville Town Council.
