Reports out of Clay County, Ill indicate that a Richland County man died after an apparent tractor accident.
Saturday morning, emergency medical personnel were called out to a location on Hurricane Creek Road in rural Clay County regarding a male subject unresponsive on a tractor in a ditch.
They arrived on scene and discovered 65 year old Donald Herdes of rural Noble atop the tractor which had veered off the road and struck a power pole before coming to rest in the ditch.
The power was cut and Herdes was removed from the tractor and taken to Clay County Hospital in Flora where he was pronounced dead.
The Clay County Coroners office says it is believed that Herdes had a medical episode aboard the tractor which caused him to blackout at the wheel. The tractor then ran off the side of the road and hit the power pole with the lines coming down on the tractor before it then stopped in the ditch.
