The primary election here in Lawrence County is now in the history books and not many people took part in the voting Tuesday. Of the 8,687 registered voters here in Lawrence County, only 1,930 cast ballots at the various polling places-a low turnout of just 22.2%. County Clerk Will Gibson says that the lack of any local contested races played a factor in the the lack of voting. On the state side, unofficially it appears as if incumbent 102nd District State Representative Adam Neimerg has taken Lawrence County in the write-in primary vote with 798 compared to opponent Jim Acklin with 36 and Edward "Ed" Blade with 2. It was still too early to declare an overall district winner in that unusual write-in vote. Darren Bailey did win Lawrence County in the 12th District Republican primary with 1,088 votes to incumbent Mike Bost with 474. But Bost captured the district-wide nomination and Donald Trump also took Lawrence County in the Republican presidential primary handily with 1,417 votes. On the Democratic side, incumbent President Joe Biden took Lawrence County with 258 votes while it was Brian Roberts taking the county in the 12th District primary with 171 votes to Preston Gabriel Nelson with 104. All election results are unofficial until certified by the Illinois State Board of Elections.
