Art Jacobs, a longtime member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department, was named the recipient of the 2026 MacQueen Excellence Award, representing District 5 of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association (IVFA) on Wednesday. District 5 is comprised of 39 volunteer fire departments across north central Indiana.
The award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has made a positive impact in their community or fire department to help promote the betterment of the fire service in their community.
Jacobs was recognized for his instrumental role in coordinating with the City of Plymouth, Center Township, and West Township to acquire a fixed training facility that has been placed on the property behind the Marshall County Sheriff's Department. The training facility is available not only to Marshall County but to all surrounding counties as well.
Those who know Jacobs describe him as an individual who doesn't know the meaning of the word "no" when asked to do something. His dedication to the community extends well beyond the fire department. Jacobs currently serves as president of the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals, a position he holds in addition to his decades of service with the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department.
Jacobs has been an active member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department since 1982, having served in many positions over the years. He presently holds the rank of Battalion Chief.
The MacQueen Excellence Award is made available annually to each IVFA District Chairman to assist departments in recognizing any individual or organization that has made a positive difference in their community and fire department.
