The Plymouth School Board has selected a Mishawaka contractor to renovate the varsity gymnasium at Plymouth High School in a project valued at nearly $1.8 million.

Board members voted 5-0 on Tuesday evening to award the contract to Gibson Lewis LLC for $1,795,000. The company's bid was chosen from among five contractors who submitted bids for the bid opening on February 28.

Brian Bohlender, representing Barton Coe Vilamaa Architects & Engineers, told the board Monday that the bids were fairly competitive and recommended accepting Gibson Lewis's base bid along with four of five proposed alternates.

The contract includes replacement of the first and second-floor doors, hardware, glazing, and frames throughout the facility. The project also calls for replacement and relocation of scoreboards and replacement of HVAC grills on the second-floor north and south decks.

The only alternate not selected involves work in rooms E106 and E202 lobby and the southwest stairwell.

The renovation project is part of ongoing improvements to the high.
