Plymouth Police make 4 driving-related arrests on Wednesday

Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made four arrests on Wednesday, September 2nd, all involving driving violations, according to department reports.

The arrests began at 3:30 p.m., when Patrolman Thornton initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Michigan Street and Meadow Lane. While speaking with the driver, the officer discovered that Victor Manuel Aguirre Acosta, 18, of West Lafayette, had never been issued a driver's license. Acosta was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked for operating a motor vehicle without ever obtaining a license.

About 90 minutes later, at 5 p.m., Patrolman Thornton conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had pulled into the Park Side Mini-Mart at 1717 N. Michigan Street. Dispatch notified the officer that the registered owner and driver of the vehicle had a suspended license. Jermaine Jonathan Ernest Plump, 44, of Mishawaka, was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail. He was charged with driving while suspended with a prior and held on a $500 cash bond.

At 6 p.m., Patrolman Thornton initiated another traffic stop, this time near the intersection of U.S. 30 and Oak Drive. The officer was informed that the driver, Hykeem Jermaine Tolfree, 37, of Fort Wayne, currently had a suspended license. Tolfree was lodged in the Marshall County Jail and charged with driving while suspended with a prior.

The final arrest of the day came at 9:30 p.m., when Officer Baker stopped a vehicle on U.S. 31 for not displaying headlights when required. The driver was unable to provide a license, and it was later learned that he had never obtained one. Alex Vasquez-Sarmiento, 32, of Indianapolis, was booked into the Marshall County Jail for operating a motor vehicle without ever obtaining a license.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
