A Plymouth police officer arrested two men on suspended license charges during separate traffic stops Saturday afternoon, with both drivers having prior convictions.
Officer Fisher from the Plymouth Police Department conducted both stops on February 7th, resulting in arrests just over two hours apart.
The first incident occurred just after 3 p.m. when Officer Fisher conducted a traffic stop at the Maplewood Mobile Home Park at 900 West Harrison Street for expired license plates.
The driver, identified as Seth Wright, 36, of Yorkshire Drive in Plymouth, informed the officer that his license might be suspended or invalid. Wright also explained that he had purchased the vehicle from his cousin but hadn't registered it and didn't have insurance.
When Officer Fisher ran Wright's information through dispatch, it was confirmed that Wright was driving with a suspended license and had a prior conviction. It was later determined that his license had been suspended for not having insurance.
Wright was taken into custody and charged with driving while suspended with a prior conviction and driving without insurance. His vehicle was impounded by Lyons Towing, and he was transported to the Marshall County Jail.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., Officer Fisher conducted a second traffic stop at U.S. 30 and Michigan Street after determining that the vehicle's registered owner showed a suspended license status.
The registered owner and driver was identified as Joshua Cusick, 30, of Auburn. A check of Cusick's driving status revealed he had been previously suspended.
Cusick was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail, where he was booked for driving while suspended with a prior suspension within 10 years. A licensed passenger in the vehicle took possession of the car.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. Those charged are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
