A Plymouth man was arrested on Friday afternoon after an officer with the Plymouth Police Department observed a suspended license plate on the vehicle.
At 3:05 p.m., Officer Fisher was behind a vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop on Jefferson Street east of Michigan Street. The vehicle kept going west and stopped at the traffic light where it turned south on Michigan Street and finally stopped in the BP parking lot.
The driver was identified as Abel Cruz Martinez, 36. During the stop Officer Fisher determined that Cruz Martinez had never had a driver's license. He was placed under arrest for operator never licensed and issued a citation for expired plates and no insurance.
No insurance was the reason for the plates being suspended out of Illinois. Cruz Martinez was transported to Marshall County Jail, where he was booked for operator never licensed and the vehicle was impounded.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
