For Nathan Woodard, the opportunity to bring several musicians and the community together, while supporting the Parke County Public Library was something he could not pass up.
As a result, the Parke County Unplugged Free Acoustic Music Festival is slated for June 6 at Beechwood Park in Rockville.
"We wanted to do an additional summer festival for the community to go to, song with the bluegrass festival. We always enjoy acoustic music and thought that was the direction to go. We were intrigued with bringing several different genres in to have a little bit of something for everyone. We love the concept of bringing folks from outside Parke County to enjoy our landscape and events. We additionally like to support our local businesses by bringing potential customers in and provide reasons to visit the county, in addition to the Parke County Bridge Festival," Woodard told The Parke County Post.
The festivities will kick off with blues singer Ken Tucker performing from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., Folk act Patchwork will play from 3 p.m,. to 4 p.m. and then jazz act Betsy and the Bears performing from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Country artist Steve Trent will hit the stage from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and rock act Matt Squared Music will round out the night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a blanket, or chair and have a good time, according to Woodard.
"We plan to continue this an annual event. We were traveling to other communities to see live music and decided why not here? We like the idea of having family friendly music to offer the community and utilize the Beechwood Park Pavilion, which is a local landmark. People should come out to relax, enjoy live music and utilize the park's amenities. They can also support a local restaurant, Fuzzy's Pizza, which will have their food trailer there with concessions," Woodard said.
