Three Texas men were arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit in Hancock County.
These three men are wanted for questioning in an active burglary investigation in multiple jurisdictions in Pennsylvania.
Officers were alerted to these men being in Greenfield by Pennsylvania authorities based on information obtained from the Flock Safety (Flock) Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR). Pennsylvania authorities identified a newer black Hyundai Tucson with Texas license plates WZG6775 on both the front and rear of the vehicle as being a suspect vehicle in several business burglaries.
After receiving notification from Pennsylvania authorities, Greenfield Police officers began searching for the vehicle. Officers located the car in the parking lot of a local hotel and began conducting surveillance on it. During ongoing surveillance over the next several hours, three men were observed around and inside the car multiple times. They matched the description of the men in the Pennsylvania burglaries.
All three men traveled to The Home Depot in Greenfield, where they were observed purchasing items that are commonly referred to as “burglary tools”. Evidence collected in Pennsylvania matched similar items these men purchased in Greenfield.
Just before midnight Sunday, all three men were observed leaving the hotel and walking to the car. One of the men appeared to be changing clothes. All three men got into the car and after they left the hotel, officers from the Greenfield Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of State Street and New Road in Greenfield. The wanted vehicle began to flee the traffic stop, driving off the roadway. Officers were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device that punctured three of the four tires. The vehicle continued to Interstate 70 where an Indiana State Police Trooper successfully employed a Pursuit Intervention Technique, immobilizing the vehicle. All three men were detained without further resistance.
The three men in the vehicle were identified as:
Myron R. Causey, 27 years old, from Houston, Texas
Za Cobi M. Demas, 28 years old, from Houston, Texas
Dewitt E. Ross, 30 years old, from Humble, Texas
All three men were taken to the Hancock County Jail where they are being held. This case remains active at this time in Hancock County and Pennsylvania. A 72-hour hold was granted by a Hancock County judge while the investigation continues.
