The Marshall County Commissioners unanimously accepted a bid from Joris Place LLC on Monday, Nov. 2, awarding a three-year lease on the Shady Rest farm ground at $296 per acre — the highest of five sealed bids submitted for the property.
The commissioners opened the sealed bids during their regular meeting Monday. On Oct. 5, they had approved advertising for a three-year lease of the approximately 129-acre farm ground, located on the east side of Plymouth between U.S. 31, Lincoln Highway, King Road, and 9th Road.
Five bids were submitted on a per-acre basis:
J.R. Stoller Farms LLC $211.00
Zackery and Diana Schrock $252.50
Bill Vories $256.00
Emery Stackhouse $283.55
Joris Place LLC $296.00.
The lease will run from Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2029. The agreement provides for two lease payments per year, due May 1 and Nov. 1 of each year.
The county retains the option to make less acreage available, in which case the per-acre rate will apply to the actual tillable land.
The commissioners voted unanimously to accept the offer from Joris Place LLC at $296 an acre for the three-year term.
Vories Farms/William Vories was the person who had the farm lease from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026 at $282.75 per acre.
