On December 20th, Marshall County Sheriff Matthew Hassel hosted the annual Christmas Luncheon and Awards Ceremony for the Sheriffs' department employees.
Anthony Bragg, Andrew Wozniak, Mark Hancock, and Brett Reinhold were each awarded a plaque for their ten years of service to the department.
Kevin Sherk was awarded a plaque for his forty-five years of service in the department.
Morgan Hite was awarded the Life Savings Award for her actions on February 11, 2024. At approximately 11:20 a.m. on February 11th, Dispatcher Morgan Hite received a 911 call about a female possibly having a heart attack. Within seconds, Dispatcher Hite obtained an address and immediately dispatched first responders. Dispatcher Hite determined that CPR was needed and gave instructions until first responders arrived. It was later determined that the CPR given was successful.
Sergeant Donna Tapia, Shalea Harvey, Hayden Hopple, Garrett Cain, and Luke Laidig were awarded the Life Saving Award for their actions on August 21, 2024. At approximately 4:40 p.m., Jailer Harvey entered a cell and discovered an unresponsive inmate in his bunk. While in the cell, Jailer Harvey was assisted by Jailer Hopple, Sergeant Tapia, Jailer Cain, and Jailer Laidig. Staff immediately called for EMS, administered three doses of Narcan, and performed lifesaving first aid. The inmate was transported to Plymouth Hospital and later transferred to St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka, where he was treated and released.
