A Logansport woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly stole $50,000 from a vulnerable relative in Kosciusko County.
On June 24, Dolly Daugherty, 55, of Logansport, was arrested and charged with theft where the value of property is between $750 and $50,000, a Level 6 Felony.
According to court documents, Daugherty convinced the victim to sell his home after his wife died in August 2025, with promises of purchasing another home together so Daugherty could provide in-home care for the elderly man.
On September 11, 2025, the victim signed documents that authorized Daugherty to act as his power of attorney, allowing her to manage and conduct all of his legal affairs. A little more than a month later, on October 30, the man was dropped off at a nursing home to transition into nursing care at the facility, but appeared confused and stated they were just there to visit someone.
When a nursing home representative contacted Daugherty, she told the representative she had told the man she was just dropping him off to visit a resident.
On October 31, Daugherty went to the victim's bank and obtained a cashier’s check issued in her name from the man's bank account in the amount of $50,000. The check was deposited into Daugherty’s account on November 10.
A full investigation was launched on December 9, after a report was made to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office about Daugherty “taking advantage” of a relative.
Daugherty is scheduled for an initial hearing in Kosciusko Superior Court One on Thursday, July 16.
