The Lawrenceville City Council is now at full membership after the swearing in of a new alderman Monday night.

James Robert Hedge was approved as the appointment to become the new Ward 1 alderman. He replaces Kelly Lewis, who stepped down late last year after moving out of the district. The vote to seat Hedge was 6-1 and he took the oath of office from Mayor David Courtney afterward.

During the rescheduled meeting, discussion was held on the need to raise the residential sewer rates in the future. Rates have not been raised since the year 2007 and in order to pay for the proposed new sewer plant through state and federal grants and loans, an increase is needed. No firm decisions have been made, but Mayor Courtney told GIANT-FM WAKO News that there have been several options for increases looked at. It is anticipated that the council's Utilities Committee will meet at a later date to review those options and offer a recommendation to the full council.
