The Illinois State Police (ISP) are reminding Lawrence County motorists and farmers about traffic safety on local roadways during the fall harvest season.
Farmers across the county and region will be moving their equipment between field throughout the upcoming days and weeks. As they travel, drivers and farmers alike should share the road to help reduce crashes involving tractors and other types of farm equipment.
Be patient behind slow-moving vehicles and allow for extra travel time, especially on rural roads. Increase the following distance to improve the sight lines when driving behind wide, slow moving farm equipment. Reduce speeds when encountering farm equipment.
Flashing amber lights mean "caution" and orange and red reflective triangles are warnings of farm implements traveling at a slow speed.
Following these tips will aid in making it a safe harvest season in Lawrence and surrounding counties.
